Our project is about exchange of culture. Civilian custom is very the important part of the national culture for the national culture roots in the civilian life deeply.
China claims to be “a nation of courtesy” there are many festivals or ceremonies in the Chinese lunar calendar during one year, among which the most important one is the Spring Festival. When the Spring Festival is coming, relatives and friends visit each other and congratulate each other. In Chinese folk tale, it is said, there was a fierce monster called “year”. The night before Spring Festival, it came out to hurt people, but “year” was afraid of red color and noise. So several days before the Spring Festival, people would put door-god pictures and red couplets on both sides of doors and let off firecrackers in New Years Eve in order to scare “year” away. There is substantial feast on the New Year’s Eve also. Family members get together to share a year’s happiness and sentiment. The dishes on the table are not supposed to be eaten up because, by this means , we express the good wish, as a big agricultural nation, that we produce more food than we can consume year in year out. New Year’s celebration will last fifteen days till the first full moon of the new year. It is also another Festival called Yuan Xiao jie. It is a festival of Chinese lantern. Chinese lanterns are made of color paper and wooden framework, there are as many shapes of lantern as you can conceive. These beautiful lanterns add the cheerful atmosphere to the festival. Young children enjoy seeing lantern exhibitions as well as adults. It is just the beginning of a year’s celebrations. I believe every nation has her own significant day to observe. Come to our country, please. You’ll be deeply involve in our sincere and warm feeling toward the guests.
